What is art?
I think art could be a number of things. Art could be a beautiful picture, a magnificent sculpture, or even mound of garbage. If the individual creating these pieces put his or her heart and soul into the work than I think you must classify it as art. Everyone will have a different critique on how the art is presented but it is in fact art.
How would you define art?
I would define art as anything that has some sort of subject matter, form, and some sort of medium. This way it's easier to critique and discuss the piece.
Is it possible to assess and evaluate art?
Absolutely, art is out there for interpretation. It maybe sometimes hard for the artist to hear, but art has to be discussed and dissected. This is how we learn and understand art.
What is good art, and conversely, how can one determine what is bad art?
Well, anyone can say "this is good" or "that is bad" but these critiques in themselves are BAD. If you are going to say that a work of art is bad or good you had better have a good explanation as to why. I don't have a definition of good art or bad art because everyone sees art differently, what I think is bad another might say is genius. But again, we must say why we do or do not like the art.
